The report of Ireland’s Commission on Taxation and Welfare ( Foundations for the Future), which was launched in September 2022, has been awarded the Miriam Hederman O’Brien Gold Medal by the Foundation for Fiscal Studies at a ceremony in Dublin. The award is made annually for an outstanding contribution to Irish fiscal, economic, or social policy. September also saw the publication of a report by the Irish Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Oversight on the Commission’s work, in which the Committee made a series of recommendations on the Commission’s Report. The press release on the Report of the Committee on Budgetary Oversight is available here.
Professor Niamh Moloney, who chaired the Commission, recently gave the prestigious annual Cantillon Lecture at the Dublin Economic Workshop on the work of the Commission. Earlier this year, Niamh spoke on the report at an event at the Royal Irish Academy (“The Fiscal Social Contract: How Taxation can be Applied as a Tool for Social Good in Irish Society”)
