Lukas Fiala is a PhD International Relations candidate at LSE, researching China’s defence industry, military strategy and emerging security relationships with countries in the Global South. He is also the Project Coordinator of China Foresight, the China-focused research programme at LSE IDEAS, the LSE’s foreign policy think-tank. Previously, he was a Yenching Academy Scholar at Peking University.
Lukas holds an MSc in International Relations from LSE and a BSc in Politics and IR from New College of the Humanities and has worked in policy research, advocacy and public affairs in Addis Ababa, Brussels, London and Vienna. He has authored and co-authored reports and commentaries on Chinese military strategy, China’s defence industry, and China’s evolving diplomatic posture in the Global South for platforms including CapX, Euronews, LSE IDEAS, China Dialogues, and the China-Africa Project.
