Gaston Bronstering is a first year PhD student at the International Relations Department at LSE. Generally interested in the Political Economy of Finance, he currently investigates the role and influence of index providers.
Prior to LSE, he completed a BA and MA in International and European Governance at the University of Münster, the Diplôme d’Institut d’Études Politiques de Lille, and a MSc in Political Economy at the University of Amsterdam.
During his studies, Gaston worked as a student assistant for both the University of Münster’s Chair for International Relations and Sustainability and the Institute for Ecological Economics Research. These positions mainly involved supportive research activities for projects on Climate Change and Global Finance, the Bioeconomy and processes of citizen participation, Lifestyles in adequacy with the Paris Agreement, and the Promotion of sustainability through citizen participation. Furthermore, Gaston interned in the German NGO and Think Tank Finanzwende Recherche and the Central American Parliament.
After his studies, Gaston interned at UNEP FI’s Global Policy Team focusing on sustainable finance regulation in the European Union, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Subsequently, he worked as a researcher at the academic think tank Sustainable Finance Lab associated with the Utrecht School of Economics. This role involved research on greening prudential regulation and monetary policy, as well as the role and influence of index providers.
