Olukayode Bakare is a Teaching Associate and Visiting Scholar at Durham University’s School of Government and international Affairs, United Kingdom. He earned his PhD in international relations from the University of Aberdeen, UK, and has held teaching and research positions at various universities in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He has played pivotal roles in scholarly forums within his field and has presented at numerous international conferences.
Olukayode’s academic and research interests focus on foreign policy, democratisation, security, development, international organisations, sub-Saharan African politics, international relations, and geopolitical issues. He is dedicated to educating others about the complexities and nuances of the African region, striving to enhance understanding of contemporary African challenges and prospects for development.
Given his research expertise, Olukayode has written extensively on African politics and international relations. His article, The African Union’s Security Architecture: Operational Mandate and the Challenges of the Responsibility to Protect, was published in the London Journal of Research in Humanities and Social Sciences in 2022. It examines the African Union’s security architecture within the purview of its operational mandate and challenges for the actualisation of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) in Africa.
