Sophie Legros is a PhD student at the Department of International Development at LSE. Her doctoral research explores change and continuity in gender norms and the household division of labour in Medellin, Colombia. She conducted 16 months of fieldwork between November 2019 and April 2021 in urban neighbourhoods affected by histories of violence and overlapping forms of insecurity. The mixed methods study makes use of secondary time series data from the World Values Survey, primary household survey data, and qualitative interviews.
Sophie holds a BA in Philosophy and Mathematics from Harvard University and an MSc in Philosophy of the Social Sciences from LSE. Prior to her PhD, she worked as a programme manager developing and delivering community initiatives in partnership with grassroots and international development organisations in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. She has also worked as a consultant for Girls Not Brides and Corpovisionarios.
