Many have argued that the war in Ukraine heralds a revolution in warfare that will upend our understanding of war, but what the war demonstrates is not revolution but evolution. 

But complacency even in the face of evolution poses serious challenges for states.

This talk details lessons observed on the future of war based on recent conflicts in Ukraine, Yemen, and the Middle East.

Meet our speaker

Michael John Williams is an academic and IDEAS associate specializing in transatlantic relations, European foreign policy and international security. His research focuses on NATO, global governance, and U.S.-European relations, with an emphasis on the intersection of politics and military affairs. Williams has published extensively on security studies and the role of international institutions in shaping foreign policy.
