Cold War Ends: Liberalism Triumphant? False Dawn?

Hosted by the LSE IDEAS

Saw Swee Hock Centre, The Weston Café, Studio and Rooftop Terrace, LSE, United Kingdom

30 years ago the Cold War came to an unexpected end. A new liberal order beckoned. 30 years later experts are talking of the end of the liberal West. Why has this happened? What does the future hold? Is globalisation finished? Join us to debate the future of great power relations and global conflict.

The LSE IDEAS Alumni Policy Weekend is an annual opportunity for LSE IDEAS Alumni and friends to connect with fellow course mates, faculty and practitioners over a day of lively debate and discussions. The day will conclude with an off-site dinner with the event’s speakers and faculty.

Panel 1 - The Post-Cold War World: Turbulence and change in world politics since the fall

  • Professor Michael Cox

Panel 2 - The Rise of the Civilizational State: China, Russia and Islamic Caliphate and the challenge to the liberal world order

Panel 3 - Globalisation and its Discontents

  • Professor Roberta Guerrina
