Mattia Romani

Dr Romani‘s research focuses on sustainable finance, power system decarbonisation, and transition economics. He is currently a partner at Systemiq, the systems change company, where he leads the firm work on finance, with a focus on global climate finance flows to emerging economies, public and private. He is a member of the High Level Expert Group on Climate Finance. He was recently Senior Counsel to the COP28 President.
Background
Dr Romani previously worked in private investment in sustainability and served as Managing Director for Economics, Policy and Governance at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development between 2014 and 2020. He was formerly Deputy DG of the Global Green Growth Institute in South Korea. He worked with Prof. Nicholas Stern on the Stern Review, and was a senior expert in sustainability and resource productivity at McKinsey. He started his career at Shell, working in the scenario team. He holds a DPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Development Studies from the LSE.
