Global climate and nature barometer project

We are at the forefront of collecting internationally comparable data

How citizens pay attention to climate and nature is not well understood. We are working with the Gallup World Poll to understand citizens' views now and over time.

Activities within the global climate and nature barometer project

Working with Gallup, GSOS has developed a module for the Gallup World Poll that asks survey respondents for their perceptions of changes in climate and the natural environment, how they view their consequences in terms of economic and health outcomes, and their willingness to take action and/or support public action. The survey will go into the field in 2025 in 13 countries including the UK, India, USA and China.

By embedding the module in the World Poll, a globally representative survey, we will have access to a wide range of additional information and views. We will use the project as the basis for an ambitious research programme that aims to understand how the views of citizens matter. And, as we repeat the survey, we will gain an understanding of how this is changing. There will be scope to expand the range of countries that are surveyed taking advantage of the World Poll’s coverage.

This project will put LSE at the forefront of collecting internationally comparable data in this area.
