London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP) studentships

Apply now for doctoral study in the Department of Gender Studies at LSE

The LAHP Open studentship competition for 2025/26 entry will open for applications in December 2024. To be considered, you will need to have been offered a place on the Department of Gender Studies’ PhD Programme first, so candidates hoping to pursue this route need to submit their applications through the LSE portal in good time, and ideally by the end of November 2024.

LAHP is a Doctoral Training Partnership co-funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and eight Higher Education Institution (HEI) partners including LSE. The studentship includes an annual stipend at the Research Council UK Home plus fees for three years full-time study.  LSE will also cover full fees and stipend for an additional fourth year and LAHP students are able to apply for additional funding and participate in a wide research training programme. Once the scheme is open, a link will be provided for applications to be made via the LAHP application portal on their website. The deadline for applications will likely be the end of January 2025 (exact date to be confirmed).

The Department of Gender Studies particularly welcomes LAHP applications from candidates seeking to work in the following areas of the interdisciplinary humanities:

  • Gender and Culture (including film, media, digital and popular culture, and/or the arts)
  • Transnational Sexual Culture and Representation
  • Gender and Affect and/or psychoanalytic approaches (to gender, culture and politics)
  • Gender and Narrative in literature and/or culture

The Department anticipates proposals attending to questions of complex inequality, and particularly welcomes approaches investigating overlaps across or intersections among forms of power.

If you would like to be considered under this scheme, but your research does not fall into one of the areas, above, please contact Professor Clare Hemmings (PhD convener) to discuss your proposal: c.hemmings@lse.ac.uk.

Applying for an LAHP grant does not prevent you from being considered for other sources of departmental and LSE funding. Please read the information and FAQs as you prepare your application. See our PhD application pages for more information on the application process and funding available.
