BSc Finance students Arthur Boscher, Felix Oblin and Mateo Simon blog about the Sharpe House annual trip. Destination: Amsterdam!
Following last year’s success, we decided to spend our house budget on a trip to Amsterdam. After landing at Amsterdam Schiphol, we headed towards our hostel in the freezing cold. We managed to arrive during the night, although the trip did not start as planned as our train to the city centre was cancelled due to snowy conditions.
On Friday morning, our first stop was inevitably the Rijksmuseum, arguably the most famous and touristic museum of Amsterdam. After spending many hours staring at (extremely) old paintings, we went to another iconic museum: The MoCo (Modern Contemporary) museum. There, we were able to fulfil our love for modern art with artists of the likes of Banksy, Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring amongst others.
After filling our stomachs with some pizza from New York Pizza, our Dutch guide (Charlotte) took us on a walk around the city centre. At night, we split up in two groups: some of us went for an eventful night at “Beer Town”, yet their night out ended up being shorter than anticipated due to some light alcohol tolerance within the group, while the others enjoyed a (much) more relaxing night nearby our hostel.
The next morning, we had brunch at De Vier Pilaren, originally a mobile restaurant famous for its pancakes. We then embarked on a canal cruise and contemplated Amsterdam’s architecture from sea level. We rounded off the evening with some cosy dinner and chill time at our place.
On the last day, we left early to explore the rest of the city, and decided to go to the surprising Tulip museum. After learning about the first financial bubble of all time, we walked by Anne Frank’s house as well as the Dutch National Opera house. There, we quietly picked up our luggage and took our flight back to London after this relaxing (well for most of us) getaway to Amsterdam.
