Dr Eva Poɫońska-Kimunguyi is an LSE Fellow in International Migration and European Politics. She joined LSE in 2016 and has taught in comparative politics, democracy and democratisation, and global politics ever since. Earlier she taught in European studies at the European and EU Centre, Monash University, as well as Melbourne and Deakin Universities in Australia. She also held teaching positions at the Department of Politics and International Relations, Oxford Brookes University. More recently she taught political philosophy for public policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University.
Her research spans across fields of European politics, international communication, and international studies. She is currently working on two projects in which she applies post-colonial and decolonial perspectives to the study of Europe and the European Union. She explores violence, racism, imperialism and coloniality of the EU southern border (the one that runs across the Sahara) and investigates contemporary neo-colonialism(s) in EU-Africa relations, mainly within areas of development, aid, trade, migration, and political discourse.
She has explored media narratives of the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, terrorism in Europe and Africa, as well as the politics of identity and populism in Central Europe. She has held visiting fellowships at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, Oxford University, where she examined the role of international broadcasting in European public diplomacy towards Africa. She has been part of a European Commission funded project exploring the perceptions of the EU across the Asia-Pacific region coordinated by the National Centre for Research on Europe at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
Eva has served as a consultant to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Germany, on the development of a strategy to promote Europe globally via media and cultural diplomacy in preparations for the German Presidency in the EU Council in 2020. She advised the Ministry of Information, Qatar on the regulatory framework for the Media Hub in Doha (METTQATAR). She was a guest speaker at the European Broadcasting Union’s conference on the relationship between media and politics in Europe. She is a founding member of International Cultural Relations Research Alliance (ICCRA) in collaboration with the British Council and Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Ifa), Germany.
Eva has a PhD in Media and Communications from Melbourne University, Australia, MSc in International Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), PGCE in International Development from Edinburgh University and MA in Political Science from Warsaw University.
