Born in Hungary (1922), Imre Lakatos joined Sir Karl Popper at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1960 and went on to become a Professor of Logic in 1969 until his untimely death in 1974 at the age of 51. Apart from his ground-breaking work on the Methodology of Scientific Research Programmes, the posthumous publication of Lakatos (1977) Proofs and Refutations secured his place among the most important philosophers of mathematics of the 20th century.
The LSE Library records have made the Lakatos collection open access to the research community. If you would like to view the originals, please contact the LSE Library to arrange an appointment. More Lakatos resources including recordings of him speaking can be found here.
