Manifesto

Research Culture

The manifesto of research culture at the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science

I developed a few new research directions through conversation with CPNSS folks and made good use of the library's resources, some of which are unique.

Research culture is a crucial component of all research done at The Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science. We recognise the Royal Society’s definition for what research culture means at the Centre:

“Research culture encompasses the behaviours, norms, and beliefs of the research community. It influences researchers’ career paths and determines the way that research is conducted and communicated.”

Upholding the principle of People, Culture and Environment (PCE) from the Research Excellence Framework 2028, the Centre has identified the following as the defining values of its research culture:

  • Creating a supportive and constructive culture of research excellence and research success of the highest degree.

  • Prioritising diversity in our portfolio of research outputs.

  • Open access dissemination of research findings to maximise the accessibility of our work.

  • An international research-centric open space for researchers all around the world to meet and conduct research at the Centre.

  • Creating pathways that allow a broad audience, including academic and non-academic participants and stakeholders, to understand the research conducted at the Centre.

  • Providing safe spaces for discussion and exchanging ideas.

  • Creating safe and effective communication channels for all.

  • Maintaining workspaces to allow innovation and creativity.

  • Providing valuable experience through professional service roles to support researchers at the Centre, including the delivery of their research and amplifying its impact.

All research and events carried out at Centre follow the BPA/SWIP good practice guidelines, as summarised here
