The Social Situation Monitor (SSM) team invites analysts, economists and social researchers to discuss the issue of measuring multidimensional poverty.
Until recently, most measures of poverty have just focused on income. Multidimensional poverty assessments aim to measure the non-income based dimensions of poverty, such as access to health and education, living standards, financial resilience, etc. Being able to better measure and monitor poverty is indispensable to devising effective policies.
Do existing datasets provide sufficient information to measure multidimensional poverty? Are new EU-wide indicators needed? The aim of the seminar will be to take a hard look at the evidence. The latest methodological developments and findings from the EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions, the European Quality of Life Survey and the Household Finance and Consumption Survey will be considered.
