Research Topic: Ambivalence, uncertainty and doubt: Exploring responses to oil and flooding in an ‘Indo-Guyanese’ rural coastal village

I am a PhD student in the department of anthropology at the LSE. My research focuses on descendants of Indian indenture living in Guyana. I am more widely interested in flooding, altered landscapes, oral and object histories, material culture, and the lived experienced of ambivalence, uncertainty and doubt.

I previously completed a Masters degree in the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas at the Sainsbury Research Unit, University of East Anglia. This built on an interest in material culture which has seen me work across multiple museum positions, from cataloguing cowrie shells to transporting historic pharmaceutical cabinets.

I am currently based in London but hope to spend a significant portion of the upcoming years in Guyana, conducting ethnographic fieldwork along the flooding coast. In both places I am actively seeking opportunities to integrate my research skills and interests with community initiatives.
