Alumni Groups Volunteer Agreement

We really appreciate all support offered to us by our volunteers. Please read and sign our alumni groups volunteer agreement and find out more how LSE will support you in your role.

Our alumni groups are a central part of our alumni network, keeping over 155,000 alumni connected around the world. Groups are led by dedicated committees of volunteers and we appreciate all that they do in supporting, promoting and advocating for LSE.  Alumni Groups provide advice to the Alumni Association and the Alumni Engagement Team for in-country programming and support the broader objectives of LSE in engaging the international alumni community.

Purpose

The Alumni Association and the School formally recognises the Alumni Groups for the following purposes to:

  • bring together all alumni of LSE in affirmation of their mutual partnership with students, faculty and staff of one of the world’s premier academic institutions
  • facilitate social, professional networking and mentoring opportunities for alumni around the world
  • create ambassadors/advocates in priority areas to support student recruitment, fundraising aims, and share thought leadership from LSE
  • create a network or community of practice across areas of special interest or professional specialisms for alumni, students and offer holders in country, particularly when graduates return home.
  • encourage and promote intellectual engagement, academic discussion and life-long learning in country
  • inform alumni about activities at the School and serve as a channel of communications between alumni and LSE
  • arrange relevant activities on behalf of alumni within their respective regions or specialist areas, providing opportunities for alumni to network, socialise and offer their skills and expertise for the benefit of the School and other alumni.

We ask all the volunteers in Alumni Groups to ensure that the following guidelines are adhered to.

Standards

  • Alumni Groups are expected to act to the highest standards of ethical integrity in accordance with the ethical principles set out in the LSE Ethics Code
  • Volunteers in Alumni Groups are expected to liaise constructively and positively with the alumni population
  • Members of Alumni Groups should work collaboratively with staff of the School on all activity
  • Maintain an open dialogue between themselves, the Alumni Association and the Alumni Engagement Team at LSE so all constituencies are apprised of ongoing activities, events and updates
  • Volunteers in Alumni Groups are expected to be positive ambassadors for the School and not to wilfully bring LSE in disrepute.
  • Alumni Groups should not use volunteer activities or networks as a platform for promoting private enterprises or political views.
  • The Alumni Groups will show respect by demonstrating courtesy, honesty, integrity and fairness in all dealings in their role.
  • LSE’s mission is to be the leading social science institution, with the greatest global impact. In order for the School to uphold its commitments, all members of the alumni community have a role to play in supporting the School’s aims and complying with related policies and procedures. The Alumni Misconduct Procedure maintains such conditions and protects our community and the School. Find out more here.

In the event of an alumni volunteer not complying with the School’s procedures on any of the below areas, these will be investigated through the Alumni Complaints Procedure and may lead to a cessation in recognition as an alumni volunteer, and on occasion as a recognised alumni group. LSE and the Alumni Association may also cease its formal affiliation and support if an alumni volunteer is unable to adhere to the requirements set out in the standards and commitments, does not meet reasonable requests made by the School or wilfully brings the School into disrepute.

This Alumni Group Volunteer Agreement governs the relationship between the Alumni Group, the Alumni Association and the School.

I confirm that I have read the information in this Volunteer Agreement. I agree that I will act, at all times, within these guidelines. I understand that any work I undertake on behalf of LSE is entirely voluntary and I will act as positive ambassador of the School.  I understand that by signing this agreement, I am confirming acceptance on behalf of the volunteer members of the Alumni Group.
