When I was looking for a way to advance my learning and to further develop my skill set, then LSE was really at the top of my list. I have found the quality of the instruction to be really superb. What LSE offers, is the opportunity to immerse yourself into the content with likeminded individuals for a very short period of time… It is something that I’ll take forward and would highly recommend for anyone else considering it.

The teaching staff on the programme are absolutely phenomenal, a testament to LSE in terms of producing such world class scholars. They make it very easy to understand subject material and there is very good support. I would describe the programme as extremely rigourous, excellent teaching quality and definitely good value for money. I would recommend the Methods Summer Programme to all of my friends, purely because the training you get is world-class and it will definitely give you the edge.

Qualitative Research Methods
I applied for the Methods Summer Programme because I am soon going to be doing my masters thesis, and I wanted to refresh my skills and gain some new tools. The practical side of the course helped me see areas that I hadn’t seen before, and taught me how to do it in the future. The programme was everything that I had hoped for! I particularly enjoyed the practical element of the course, which included carrying out observations and focus groups.

It is intensive and challenging, but not to an extent that it is unmanageable. It really challenges you and I think that is a good thing… The teaching is of very high quality in general, most importantly because they teach in a very clear, concise manner…all the teachers are friendly and helpful and you never feel intimidated to ask questions.

I wanted some theoretical background for the practical research questions that we are dealing with in the Ministry. Some colleagues came here last year, so I heard some good feedback, and my boss said to me that I should come, as it will be helpful for me and for my work. It is great that I have been able to see the mathematics and theory behind the models that we have been using in the Ministry.

The teaching staff on the programme are very easy to relate to and they are always open to questions. This course has provided me with a great summer in London, plus a lot of learning. I would definitely recommend the Methods Summer Programme. Sharing ideas with different backgrounds and cultures is a great experience.

My lecturer was very passionate about the subject and made data very interesting to work with. The Methods Summer Programme offers a very good networking opportunity; I think there is a good mix of students, researchers and working professionals.

My supervisor recommended the programme to me. The LSE is known for its high quality education, and the teaching on the Methods Summer Programme has certainly lived up to this reputation. If you are doing a PhD in economics, this is definitely the place to come to get the skills that you need.

Virginia Sondergeld
MSc student, London School of Economics
Intermediate Econometrics
The summer programme for me has been a great and intense learning experience. The pace and content of the course has been demanding, but all of the participants were extremely motivated, and there was a high degree of interaction between the teachers and the participants. I would definitely recommend the programme.

I’ve been really impressed with the programme, and I think it certainly exceeded my expectations. I was hoping that I might be able to walk away with one or two really good ideas, and instead I’ve walked away with at least a dozen really practical tools to use, and some great networks that I think will be really lasting.

A benefit of this course is the networking aspect ... from day one I realised very quickly it is all about meeting new people from all backgrounds, not just in terms of countries, but in terms of their research interests, and what they do academically or professionally.
