Rana is a cognitive experimental psychologist interested in the capacity limits of information processing resources. She is a guest course leader for cognitive psychology (PB201) on the BSc Psychological and Behavioural Science programme. She is also a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Edinburgh investigating moral circle changes across development, as well as the cognitive factors that shape people’s moral circles. Rana also researches anthropogenic and existential risks. Her work focuses on the cognitive factors that constrain decision making and behaviour that expose humanity to extinction risks. She investigates the prevalence of omnicidal tendencies and how people rationalise extinguishing all life on earth. Previously, Rana holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of York where she investigated the cognitive capacity limits of face detection. She completed her MSc in Organisational and Social Psychology from LSE and a BSc in Psychology the University of York.
