About me

Dr Sanchayan Banerjee, FHEA is an Assistant Professor of Behavioural and Environmental Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Sanchayan holds a PhD (2022) and MSc (2018) from the London School of Economics. He is a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at LSE. In his research, he focusses on developing and testing citizen-oriented behavioural public policies in areas of food policy, energy policy, charitable donations and public health. Sanchayan is better known for developing the NUDGE+ toolkit with Peter John. He is an interdisciplinary social scientist and combines insights from different fields in his research, notably economics, psychology, and philosophy.

Sanchayan currently leads a 5.7 mn Euros NWO-funded project "ALIGN4energy" on tailoring behavioural interventions to facilitate the uptake of green energy investments in the Dutch residential sector. Sanchayan is a seasoned teacher and has won three consecutive teaching awards at LSE (2020-22) and three teaching innovation grants at VU Amsterdam (2022-24). He is the founder and co-convenor of the VU Amsterdam Summer School course on Statistical Methods for Causal Inference. He also founded and runs a VU Winter School course on Behavioural Public Policy. Sanchayan is the founder convenor of Behavioural Transformations, an annual workshop on behavioural public policy. He sits on the International Behavioural Public Policy Association (IBPPA). Sanchayan is an Associated Editor of Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (Nature) and co-Editor of the New Voices section of Behavioural Public Policy journal.
