LSE has been ranked the top university in London and sixth in the world for Social Science and Management subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 published today.
LSE came in the world top five in five subjects including Geography (2nd); Philosophy (2nd); Development Studies (3rd); Sociology (5th); and Politics and International Studies (5th).
In addition, the School was ranked in the world top ten for History (6th); Law (6th); Communications and Media Studies (6th); Social Policy and Administration (7th); Accounting and Finance (8th); and Economics and Econometrics (8th).
Published annually since 2011, the QS World University Rankings by Subject are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. The rankings use data from over 1,700 institutions.
Commenting on the news, LSE’s Vice President and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research) Professor Susana Mourato said:
“I am incredibly proud of LSE’s achievements in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025. The School’s fantastic performance this year is testament to LSE’s unwavering commitment to research excellence and real-world impact. We couldn’t have achieved these results without all the tremendous work undertaken by our staff, in collaboration with our students and alumni, funders and partners.”
These new rankings are consistent with other recent league tables. In the autumn, LSE was ranked the top university in the UK and named as the ‘University of the Year 2025’ by the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.
It was also named the top university in London for the fifth consecutive year in the Guardian University Guide 2025 league table.
