Professor Nick Allum is a quantitative social scientist and Emeritus Professor of Research Methodology at the University of Essex. He has primarily worked in public understanding of science and technology. He also has research interests in survey methodology, research integrity and metascience (using scientific methods to study science itself). Outside of academia, Nick plays music and cricket (one quite well and the other quite poorly). He is also a private pilot and flying instructor.
Nick's current research is about how scientists go about their work and about understanding the array of incentives they face in doing their research work from both an organisational and individual perspective. Nick recently completed a large survey of researchers in Europe and North America as part of a wider project, Standard Operating Procedures for Research Integrity.
