On Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th March 2012 a Symposium titled Social Protection, Economic Growth and Social Change: Goals, Issues and Trajectories in Brazil, China, India and South Africa was held at LSE. The Symposium was led by Professor David Piachaud and Professor Jimmy Midgley and organised by the LSE India Observatory.
Over the course of the two days academics from Brazil, China, India and South Africa presented papers relating to the theme of the Symposium for comment and discussion.
The papers presented at the Symposium became chapters in a book titled Social Protection, Economic Growth and Social Change: Goals, Issues and Trajectories in China, India, Brazil and South Africa, published by Edward Elgar.
The book was launched at LSE on 13th February 2014. The speakers were Dr Francesca Bastagli, Professor Tony Hall and Dr Ruth Kattumuri, chaired by Professor David Piachaud.
