A workshop on this theme was led by Professor David Piachaud and Professor James Midgley and organised by the India Observatory at LSE on 17th and 18th March 2010.
Over the two days academics from LSE and other overseas universities presented papers on the topic of Colonialism and Welfare. Subsequent to the workshop, a book titled Colonialism and Welfare - Social Policy and the British Imperial Legacy edited by James Midgley and David Piachaud was published by Edward Elgar in 2011.
The book was launched at the LSE in an event jointly with the Department of Social Policy at LSE on 17th May 2011. The speakers were Lord Frank Judd, Professor Thandika Mkandawire and Professor James Midgley, chaired by Professor David Piachaud.
