The International Inequalities Institute welcomes applications from PhD students from other universities, who may spend up to three terms at the LSE to undertake research under the Visiting Research Students (VRS) scheme. Please note that even though students have the opportunity to work at the III during their stay, it is imperative that they submit their application to a relevant LSE department under their respective VRS scheme.
If you are interested in applying for the scheme, please familiarise yourself with its conditions, fees and requirements. Please note that research students interested in the scheme must identify and contact Faculty members from the International Inequalities Institute directly about their area of research, and ask them if they will agree in principle to supervise them during their time at the LSE. After obtaining the agreement, students must apply directly to an LSE department for the VRS scheme, clearly indicating which III researcher they wish to work with in their application.
To assess your suitability, please provide the rationale for your interest, a short summary of the work you hope to undertake with their supervision, and a copy of your CV. Please also specify why you would prefer to be affiliated with the International Inequalities Institute.
The VRS scheme at the International Inequalities Institute allows visiting students to participate in research activities and seminars, connect with colleagues and staff around the LSE, provides access to LSE library facilities as well as providing a desk space at the International Inequalities Institute. Please note that VRS students are not given access to any LSE taught courses.
Because of its emphasis on independent research, the VRS scheme is best suited to students, who are at an advanced stage of their PhD research and training.
