About me

Haris bin Aziz earned his Ph.D. in European Studies from the Area Study Centre for Europe, University of Karachi and remained visiting doctoral scholar at the universities of Cambridge, Columbia, King’s College London and the University of Bologna, Italy. His topic of research was "Freedom of Expression Debates in Europe and the Muslim World after 9/11" and the dissertation is soon going to the press for publication as monograph.

Haris's research focus remains on relations between Muslim World and the West with a particular focus on Muslims in the West, especially in Europe. This encompasses the debates on Muslim integration into western societies, freedom of expression and religion as well as extremism, etc.

Haris has held visiting positions at SOAS, Queen Mary and Goldsmiths University of London and remained a fellow of the Center for Media, Data and Society, School of Public Policy, Central European University, Knight-Salzburg Fellow in 2009, FES Af-Pak Journalism Fellow in 2012 and Dora Plus Visiting Doctoral Scholar in 2018. He has taught International Relations to graduate students at the University of Karachi and conducted research at the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs and Social Policy and Development Center, Karachi.
