Professor Bartlett is Editor-in-Chief of Economic Annals at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Belgrade. He received an MA in economics from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD on economic development and unemployment in former Yugoslavia from the University of Liverpool. He has lectured in development economics and was Professor of Social Economics at the University of Bristol (where he was also Deputy Director of the Centre for Mediterranean Studies) and has been a Research Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. He was previously Deputy Director and Senior Research Fellow in the Political Economy of South East Europe at LSEE. He has published articles in the Journal of Development Economics, International Journal of Industrial Organisation, Small Business Economics, and the Journal of Contemporary European Studies. His research has been funded by the ESRC, the British Academy, the Leverhulme Trust and the European Training Foundation. He has carried out research on foreign direct investment (FDI) and special economic zones (SEZ) in the Western Balkans for the European Commission. His current research interest is on the drivers and impact of Greek FDI in the Western Balkans and their integration into regional value chains.
