About me

Dr Maria Koumenta is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Work and Labour Market Analysis at Queen Mary, University of London. Her research activities are in the fields of labour economics and labour market policy. Dr. Koumenta works on issues relating to pay, pay inequality, gender and ethnic pay gaps, occupational regulation, social mobility and non-standard forms of employment in the labour market. She has led various projects funded by the UK government, the European Commission and the OECD, and has provided testimony and policy advice to UK government departments (HM Treasury, Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, Department of Health, Social Mobility Commission), parliamentary committees, and officials at the European Commission, the World Bank and the OECD. She has published widely in labour economics and employment studies journals such as Labour Economics, the British Journal of Industrial Relations, Human Relations and the Industrial Relations Journal, while she has authored a number of policy reports and edited books. Dr. Koumenta was awarded her PhD from the LSE, where she also worked as an Associate Researcher at the Centre for Economic Performance.
