In this Research Seminar, the speaker presented the findings of the Research Project 'A Climate Neutrality Strategy for Cyprus', funded by the A.G. Leventis Research Innovation Programme on Cyprus.
As an EU Member state, Cyprus is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 but, as in many countries, this transition is full of challenges. The Cyprus Institute's team led by Theodoros is the main scientific advisor of the Cypriot government on its energy and climate plans, and this project is linked to the relevant work conducted by the team for Cypriot authorities. He will outline the investment needs for Cyprus to achieve climate neutrality, the challenges for the production structure of the economy, and an outline of the fiscal and broader economic impacts of deep decarbonisation. As the project team includes also behavioural economists, an outline of the use of behavioural insights to tackle energy poverty will also be provided in the Seminar.
