The LSE Events Office is responsible for organising and hosting LSE’s public events programme. Our events are generally free and open to all, and take place on Monday to Thursday evenings during term time, they feature some of the most prominent and influential speakers in the social sciences. From the LSE President and Vice Chancellor downwards, the public events programme is recognised as an important school asset, and our stewards play an integral role in the delivery of the events programme and other important internal school events.
The job mainly involves working for our public events programme, Monday - Thursday evenings during term time. Shifts will generally range from 1.5 - 3 hours, starting at 5/5.30pm, and most stewards work about 2 shifts per week, up to a maximum of 15 hours per week, during term time. Stewards assist with the set-up of the event; scanning tickets; seating the audience; clearing down after the event; and generally being friendly and helpful. There may also be an element of assisting with the online elements of the events, such as messaging our online audiences with pre-prepared text on LSE Live etc.
Flexibility is essential - there will be some daytime work available, and stewards are sometimes required to perform administrative tasks, work at cloakrooms, assist with departmental events and the lunchtime concerts etc. Some shifts will be available during holiday periods (working for large conferences, or graduation for example) but the majority of work is during term time. You will be expected to work regularly, including during the exam period, but when you work is always up to you. Please note, we can never guarantee a certain number of hours per week, as this depends on how busy the programme is at any one time.
We are looking for candidates with strong customer service experience; excellent teamwork skills; a positive proactive approach to work; and an outgoing and friendly manner. You must be a current LSE student who is able to commit to working for at least the full academic year 2025/2026 and preferably 2026/2027 too. The role is paid at an hourly rate of £17.23. If you have any questions please email stewards@lse.ac.uk.
To apply for the role please complete the following form by 5pm on Monday 7th April.
