Meet our speakers and chair
Nicholas Stern (@lordstern1) is the IG Patel Professor of Economics and Government, Chairman of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment and Head of the India Observatory at the London School of Economics and Political Science. President of the British Academy, July 2013 – 2017, and was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2014.
Emily Shuckburgh (@emilyshuckburgh) is a climate scientist and science communicator. She is also Professor of Environmental Data Science at the Department of Computer Science and Technology and leads the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training on the Application of AI to the study of Environmental Risks.
Richard Layard is a labour economist who has worked for most of his life on how to reduce unemployment and inequality. He is also one of the first economists to work on happiness, and his main current interest is how better mental health could improve our social and economic life. He is founder-director of LSE's Centre for Economic Performance, and is co-director of the Centre's programme on Community Wellbeing.

Lionel Robbins was one of the outstanding men of his time: economist, public servant and supporter of the arts. The lectures, which were established in his name, take place each year and are a major event in the life of LSE, featuring eminent economists from around the world.
The second lecture, A new growth story; structural transformation; policies and institutions, will take place on Wednesday 13 March.
The third lecture, Recasting the global economy and international institutions: collaboration, competition, and the new growth story will take place on Thursday 14 March.
