This talk about automated trading will develop the case for an integrated “material sociology” view of markets, as both social institutions and technical systems.

This is the Auguste Comte Memorial Lecture.

Donald MacKenzie is Professor of Sociology at the University of Edinburgh.

Bryan Roberts (@SoulPhysics) is Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method at the LSE.

The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method (@LSEPhilosophy) at LSE was founded by Professor Sir Karl Popper in 1946, and remains internationally renowned for a type of philosophy that is both continuous with the sciences and socially relevant.

The Department of Sociology, (@LSEsociology) which has played a key role in establishing and developing the discipline since 1904.

Self-Assessment Record forms will be made available for delegates wishing to record further learning and knowledge enhancement for Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPD) purposes. For delegates who wish to obtain a CPD Certificate of Attendance, it is the responsibility of delegates to register their details with a LSE steward at the end of the event and as of 1 September 2014 a certificate will be sent within 28 days of the date of the event attended by the CPD Certification Service.  If a delegate fails to register their details at the event, it will not prove possible to issue a certificate.
