Quiet places to study are at a premium, but here are some options on and off campus.
Small study room off the Student Common Room
The Common Room is not always the most peaceful place, but go first thing in the morning and you should be able to get a couple of quiet hours.
You can also also book the Small Meeting Room for up to two hours using this form: Small Meeting Room Booking Sheet
Bookable and first-come-first-served spaces on campus
Here's the School's page of study spaces, both quiet and social, large and small, which can be used with or without the need to book: Study space on campus
The page notes that if you need to pre-book a study or teaching room for group study as part of your academic programme, you can ask your department to book it on your behalf via Resource Booker or lse.roombookings@lse.ac.uk.
There is a list of daily room bookings via this link and details of bookings will also be displayed on the door of each room. Students can use study and teaching rooms on a first come first served basis if they are not already pre-booked.
LSE Library
The library also has information on study spaces, some of which you can reserve: https://www.lse.ac.uk/library/using-the-library/using-the-space-and-facilities
For master's students only
4th Floor Postgraduate Silent Study Room, Library
There is a postgraduate-only silent study room on the top floor of the library. You’ll need your key card to access the space.
The Shaw Library (6th floor, Old Building)
This can fill up fast, but it's a relatively quiet and comfortable space if you are tired of the Library.
Other university libraries
As an LSE student you have the right to access other University of London libraries. These include the UCL library - to get a UCL library pass, go online and submit a photo of yourself and proof that you are a LSE student.
UCL libraries in the Bloomsbury area also include: the Bartlett library, UCL Science Library, UCL Institute of Education Library, etc.
- King College London library offers access to UoL students: Information here
- The Senate House Library is free for University of London students - apply online with your LSE student number and email.
The British Library
You'll need to apply for a card, but the reading rooms are very peaceful.
Student recommendations for quiet study spots
Every year there are student vlogs and blogs recommending favourite study spots, so just google something like 'LSE quiet study' and explore what's available. Students also tend to list local cafes and hidden gems for those who don't mind exploring a bit.
