Panellists in a variety of roles will discuss their work and how their background as economic historians has helped in developing this career. They will cover opportunities the civil service can offer, plus insights into the Fast Stream scheme application process.

Dr Tim Leunig is currently Senior Ministerial Policy Adviser at Defra, Ministerial Economic Adviser on Housing Supply at HCLG, and also returning as guest teacher in the Economic History Department, LSE. 

He will be joined by two Economic History alumni - Nathan Paterson, a Fast Stream Generalist working in roles including corporate services and policy, and by Ieuan Bennett who applied last year and is now working as Assistant Economist at the Department of Education.

More about Dr Tim Leunig

Tim Leunig is Associate Professor of Economic History at LSE. He was appointed to the Government Economic Service as an undergraduate, but decided on an academic career instead. Five years ago he joined the Department of Education, where he served as Senior Ministerial Policy Adviser, Chief Analyst and Chief Scientific Adviser. He then returned to LSE part-time, before returning to government again, this time as Senior Ministerial Policy Adviser at Defra, and Ministerial Economic Adviser on Housing Supply at HCLG.
