Data Science across industries
Machine learning is transforming large parts of the economy, and data scientists have the opportunity of to apply their skills in an incredibly broad variety of domains. The technical field is in rapid progress and professional roles in continuous development as companies navigate successive waves of technological and economic change. Data scientists must therefore craft skill paths which balance focus on rapid learning with capabilities complementing their domain, organisations and wider industry.
Drawing on his experience from startups, consulting and tech, Christian will provide insights into what data science roles and projects can involve across industries. He will share advice on how data science professionals can prepare and develop through their professional journey.

Christian is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at SoundCloud, where he works on the core music recommendation system. He has previously designed and implemented machine learning systems for finance, marketing, retail, robotics, public infrastructure, industrial chemistry and digital markets.
Building on a Bachelors in Musicology at the University of Oslo and an M.A (Hons) Business with Enterprise & Innovation at the University of Edinburgh, Christian came to the LSE in 2018 after interning for Bloomberg. He made the transition into data science, studying MSc. Management of Information Systems and Digital Innovation with elective courses in machine Learning.
He interned for food tech startup Crisp in Los Angeles, and joined data consultancy BearingPoint in Norway. As a data science consultant, Christian developed ML applications for forecasting in finance and computer vision for a global German industrial manufacturer. He led a data science team for Antler startup Plaace, architecting their MLOps platform and predicting revenues for all retail businesses in Norway. As acting Chief Data Officer for NVIDIA Inception startup Railway Robotics, he developed their computer vision ML system and worked on AI product development. Christian returned to London in 2023 after being awarded the UK Global Digital Talent Visa in AI.
