As a compulsory course for the CEMS MiM : Master’s in International Management this course is available only to, and compulsory for, those students on the CEMS MiM programme.
Pre-requisites
It is assumed that the students have already taken introductory Organisational Behaviour or Global Business courses. The 2nd year Master’s in Management students are offered these prerequisites during their 1st year.
Course content
This course aims to answer the question “How internationally operating companies such as multinational companies (MNCs) build efficient and effective organisations in order to realise the company’s international objectives?” The focus of the course is on cooperation and management in an international context. Topics include the contemporary MNC people management issues taken from the fields of cross-cultural management, international human resource management, and international organisational behaviour.
Teaching
30 hours of lectures in the LT.
This course employs a combined lecture/seminar format - the weekly 3 hour sessions will encompass both the lecture and seminar teaching methods. Students' ongoing progress will be assessed throughout the term, while working in culturally and intellectually diverse groups will enhance the MiM learning outcomes of “reflective critical thinking” and “internationalism”.
Formative coursework
Students will be expected to produce 8 essays in the LT.
The ‘submission’ of the weekly learning logs will count towards the final grade, but this will also work as formative assessment such that the students will be provided with feedback on the room for improvement in (essay) writing. The students will also have an opportunity to make class presentations that do not count to the grades but will be provided with feedback as formative assessment.
