Call for Papers:
The LSE International Relations Department and the Middle East Centre at LSE invite submissions for a Symposium in honour and in memory of Fred Halliday, at the 10th anniversary of his death.
The main objective of the Symposium will be to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas between researchers in the last year of their PhD, or still within three years of having completed one, undertaking research on any of the topics that Fred Halliday worked on. These topics include, but are not limited to: Greater West Asia/the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, revolutions, historical sociology, gender, nationalism and internationalism, historical International Relations (including the legacies of the Cold War).
The Symposium will take place at the London School of Economics on 30 April 2020 and it will be a whole-day event. It will be sponsored by the International Relations Department and the Middle East Centre of the LSE. We will be able to offer grants for travel to and from London and two nights’ accommodation to successful applicants.
Abstracts of 500 words are to be sent to Dr Katerina Dalacoura at K.Dalacoura@lse.ac.uk attached to an email with subject matter ‘Fred Halliday Symposium Abstract’. The deadline for submission is 20 December 2019. Regrettably we will be unable to accept any late submissions received after this date.
Successful applicants will be notified on 10 January 2020 at which time they will be requested to submit a paper to Dr Katerina Dalacoura on K.Dalacoura@lse.ac.uk of between 5,000-6,000 words by 1 April 2020. The subject matter of the email submission should read ‘Fred Halliday Symposium Paper Submission’.
