Anam holds an MSc in Organisational Psychology from the University of Manchester Science & Technology and a PhD in Psychology applied to Medicine from Imperial College London. Anam previously worked as a postdoctoral Research Associate in Psychology at Imperial College within the field of quality of care and patient safety. Her PhD examined the roles and powers of acute care managers in quality and patient safety. Prior to her time at Imperial, Anam worked at the University of Exeter implementing an applied behavioural analysis programme to improve safety in the quarrying sector.

In her research, Anam applies organisational, behavioural, health and social psychology into practice, particularly in the areas of organisational, home, employee, patient and passenger safety, and quality improvement. Other interests include inter-group differences and the powers held by different individuals and groups impacted upon by organisational hierarchies.

Anam's teaching contributions span departments: public health, surgery and the business school, and cross disciplines: health, behavioural, social and organisational psychology and medicine. Lectures have included occupational stress, behavioural change, clinician involvement in quality improvement, management and quality of care, survey design and conducting qualitative research.
