Join us for this special event with Eliza Manningham-Buller, co-President of Chatham House, former Director General of the UK Security Service (MI5) and former Chair of the Wellcome Trust.

Meet our speaker and chair

Eliza Manningham-Buller is co-president of Chatham House. Previously, she was Director General of the UK Security Service (MI5) between 2002 and 2007. She became a Crossbench life peer in 2008, and in the Lords she is a member of the Science and Technology Select Committee and is chair of the Conduct Committee. She served as chair of the Council of Imperial College from 2011 to 2015; and on the Board of Governors of the Wellcome Trust from 2008 to 2021, chairing it from 2015.

Minouche Shafik is Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Prior to this, she was Deputy Governor of the Bank of England. She is an alumna of LSE. Her new book, What We Owe Each Other: A New Social Contract, is out now.
